Zayn Malik Cancels Mexico City Concert After “Severe” Illness
Zayn Malik has canceled the final show of his first solo tour after falling ill with a bad case of food poisoning.
The 32-year-old announced March 28 that he was unable to perform his third concert at Mexico City's Palacio de los Deportes that night.
"I’m heartbroken to say that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City," Zayn wrote on his Instagram Stories. "I’ve been really sick since this morning and, despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn't allowing it."
The "Pillowtalk" singer continued, "I’m so sorry to let you down. The love and energy I always feel from my fans mean the world to me, and it hurts deeply to miss this moment with you. Thank you for your understanding, and please know I’m sending all of my love to each of you."
Hours later, the One Direction alum shared more details about his ailment. "Mexico, I love you even though myself and many of my crew got severe food poisoning..." he wrote on his Instagram Story. "It's no joke - still struggling."
He continued, "To my fans, I'm so sorry - these shows have made me feel alive, happy, grateful, & at home and that's all because of you. these shows, your energy, your fan projects... filled me with so much love and with a feeling i can't even describe. Big love."

Zayn began his Stairway to the Sky Tour, supporting the release of his fourth studio alum Room Under the Stairs, last November. During his first show in Mexico City on March 25, the singer opened the concert with the One Direction song "Night Changes," marking the first time he has performed a track by the band since he left the group exactly 10 years prior.
"Thank you, that was f--king amazing," he told the crowd after the performance, as seen in a video shared to social media. "I almost cried at one point. This is insane."
Also during the tour, Zayn has closed his shows with a tribute to late bandmate Liam Payne, who died at age 31 in October after falling from the balcony of a Bueno Aires hotel room. He and the other surviving One Direction singers—Harry Styles,Louis Tomlinson andNiall Horan—reunited at Liam's funeral in November.
"We are heartbroken," they had noted in a joint statement after their friend's death. "Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul."
